Lockdown are going all ‘Anti-Valentines’ this weekend with the My Evil Ex gig & album launch

Posted in 1 on February 9, 2010 by lockdownmodels

Valentines Night sees an action packed night at the Pavilion, Carey’s Lane to celebrate the launch of Cork band My Evil Ex’s debut album ‘Lust’.  To mark the highly anticipated album launch, the band will be throwing the mother of anti-Valentines parties with Burlesque Dancers, street performers and of course a fantastic gig from the band of the moment themselves.

My Evil Ex will be joined on the night by two fine local acts. Renowned Cork & San Francisco singer-songwriter Sinead Gowen will perform a mix of heady soul and gutsy blues. And joining Sinead on stage are ‘Palko’. This Cork band’s roots are deeply based in rock with wider funk, soul, trad and jazz influences.

Having just finished recording their debut album with producer Gavin Dunne (of Lotus Lullaby fame) My Evil Ex’s aptly named ‘Lust’ blends Jazz, Blues, Punk and Rock into a unique style that has become their signature sound.

My Evil Ex’s live preformances have been described as “as intense as it is theatrical”(Murphy’s Live 2008) and their Anti-Valentine’s Day album launch  promises to be no different!

Full of great music, great entertainment and great surprises, this Valentines night event at the Pavilion is a great value for money night to support a fantastic local band!

Doors open at 8pm. Admission price at the door: €8 or €12 incl CD.

’Lust’ Produced by Gavin Dunne (Lotus Lullaby) & My Evil Ex

Model Brid Verling @ Cork Fashion Wk Apr 09

2009 was a year that saw a number of longstanding Lockdown dreams come true with the agency pioneering the first ever Cork Fashion Week in history, shooting in Paris with photographer Gerard O’Meara and above all, keeping busy and being blessed to work hard and regularly in a year that was full of negative doom and gloom everytime we opened a paper or turned on the TV.  Ignoring the downturn in the national business climate, Directors Vivienne Kelly & Emer O’Sullivan succeeded in implementing a strong business ethic that positivity, strong focus and hard work always pay off at the end of the day. Finalists in the Shell Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008, we are delighted to be part of their modernisation of the fashion scene here with some of the most influential business people in the county and look forward to all the events 2010 holds.

The Decades Festival, a new music festival on Cork’s summer calendar, will take place in pubs all over Cork city centre on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd August 2009.

This unique festival developed and organised by Cork publicans in conjunction with the VFI, promises music, madness, fancy dress and fun as 38 pubs in the Cork city island invite you to step back in time.

Supported by Carlsberg and 96FM, Cork city’s pubs will each host a decade for the weekend, providing music and entertainment from their chosen era.  There will also be a city-wide exemption on Friday and Saturday night.

Every pub will be making a special effort to create an illusion of times past with both staff and venue dressed to reflect their decade and we want to encourage our customers and visitors to dress up as well ………let’s make Cork one big fancy dress party for the weekend!

So whether you missed the 60’s, man; always wanted to frequent a 20’s speakeasy or fancy reliving the punk days of the 80’s, Cork city centre is the place for you at the Decades Festival!

Countdown to Miss Ireland 2009 – Meet Miss Sunday World 2009 Aisling Bourke

Posted in 1 on August 20, 2009 by lockdownmodels
Miss Sunday World 2009 Aisling Bourke

Miss Sunday World 2009 Aisling Bourke

So the countdown has begun to the highly anticipated Miss Ireland 2009 Final.  The big night is Saturday September 26th and will be at the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoighre this year.

In our countdown to the big final, Lockdown’s Emer O’Sullivan talks to a finalist whose face has become a familiar one on our national press – the gorgeous, bubbly Miss Sunday World Aisling Bourke.

Where are you from:

Good old Tipperary-Home of farmers and GAA.

When were you crowned Miss Sunday World and what encouraged you to enter:

14th of May 2009, week before my 21st, was the day and was not expecting it at all, nearly backed out of the final  so happy I didnt!!! I just saw the ad on the Sunday Worlds bebo page and just went with it, I had nothing to lose. Before I knew it I was getting my dress for the final. Its an honour to be the new face of the paper and I hope Im doing them proud so far!

Since being crowned what new opportunities have you had since becoming a professional model:

Miss Sunday World has certainly given me a lot more exposure. Its a tough business and I appreciate every bit of publicity I get through the paper and through my agents at Lockdown. I have worked with Patrick Cameron, I didnt realise he was such a legend when it comes to styling long hair!!  As well as the Haute Couture awards for Solo. I had a looooot of fun with the Lockdown gang at the surf party at Hamlets in Kinsale. It was a great night. I really wanted to fight Patrick in the Sumo Wrestling though. That surf simulater was my enemy as I have no balance!!

But in general I have learned so much in a short space of time doing shoots, shows and events and I look forward to a busy year ahead at the agency and also with my super Sunday World friends!

Whats the one thing about Miss Ireland that you are looking forward to?

Well Theres so much to look forward to!! I’m lucky to be experiencing it all with Etaoin, Miss Cork and fellow Lockdown hottie, knowing someone makes it less daunting!! The final is the big night but we have press calls to look forward to and I can wait to hear all about the other entrants experiences and stories!

Where is your favourite holiday destination and why?

Anywhere with sunshine!!!! I have relations in Germany and in Washington DC so have made a visit, I have  been privilaged to have travelled a lot. I say it again and again but I love Hawaii,  I never shut up about it! I was one incredibly lucky gal to have lived there and worked over there too. It is paradise so that’s my favourite hot spot!

What is your favourite food?

I cook …finally, I took it upon myself to learn!! I know exactly what I’m eating that way. When eating out I love a chinese!!

What is your favourite film?

I have to say I  Sex and the City, typical girly film.

Who would you like to invite to dinner?

Im going to be obvious and say Barack Obama but not to discuss politics but to get to his wife and possibly raid her wardrobe!!

Support Aisling in the Miss Ireland Final next month and get the Sunday World Magazine this Sunday to see her spread!

2 days to ‘Design’: Interview with Lockdown’s most stylish DJ Stevie G

Posted in 1 on November 18, 2009 by lockdownmodels

With only two days to go to DESIGN at the Pavilion featuring singer Brian Deady, we chat with a long-standing friend of Lockdown who has lit up many parties and fashion shows with his musical talents since the beginning days at Lockdown! RedFm DJ and renowned Irish DJ Stevie G!

Stevie G

Stevie G

Q.: You’ve supported Lockdown as an agency since the beginning days promoting student designers in the city and local business in fashion through playing for shows. Whats has been your best memory in these events of the fusion between fashion and music?

I’ve always enjoyed working with Lockdown and all of their models over the years and it has been particularly satisfying to see how the whole thing has got bigger over that time. The highlight was undoubtedly Cork Fashion Week earlier this year and it was great to see local young people putting Cork firmly on the map in what is potentially a huge event in our calendar for years to come!

Q: Working closely with student musicians and DJs yourself, how important do you think it is to provide a platform for young design talent in our city and encourage the young students coming up the ranks

Stevie: This gives me a massive buzz because the Lockdown crew and all of their people are trying to promote Cork for fashion in the exact same way as I am for music. The youth is the future and you only had to see the turn-out for the teenage fashion showcase last April to see that the next level of fashion people in Cork are delighted to be getting involved too!

Q: You’re known around town as a pretty stylish guy yourself who has been known to have the best kicks and labels, do you think fashion for guys has changed the last few years in Cork?

Stevie: Ha ha I dunno about that! I love pretty obvious stuff such as All Saints and Converse but I have also been impressed by what the likes of Zara have on offer. I really like what the girls are doing at Positively 8th Street and Fellini next door to the Pavilion is also cool for vintage stuff, which i’ve always loved!

Q: Tell us about the act you have in for JAM after the Design show:

Stevie: My man Mikki Dee is one of the best DJ’s living here (he is origianlly from New Zealand) and he has been spinning with me since my days in the Back bar of Sir Henrys. Super UK host & lyricist Mystro Joins forces with him too;The lads tore up Oxegen with their combination of live songs, hiphop classics and party jams all chopped up on turntables and video screens; it’s gonna be unreal, don’t miss it!

Tune into Red Drive with Stevie G on RedFm from 5pm daily to win tickets to DESIGN. Tickets are also now onsale from the Pavillion, Careys Lane and Sobe Brown, Morrisons Island (4222407), €15. Doors open at 9pm Friday and tickets include entry into JAM with Stevie G and guests Mikki Dee & Mystro after.

Design Success

Posted in 1 on November 24, 2009 by lockdownmodels

Thanks to all the die-hards who braved the floods in Cork city last Friday night, all in the name of fashion. The Design show was a huge success and credit to the hard work that Directors Vivienne Kelly & Emer O’Sullivan put in to organise a show of this magnitude against the weather and recession odds of the moment. Testiment again to the strong business and fashion community in Cork.

Model Kellie Forde

Singer Brian Deady who has just released his new album ‘Interview’  blew the crowd away with his set to which the Lockdown models strutted their stuff.  His unique style and blend of funky soul had everyone on their feet and itunes was no doubt clogged up the next day with everyone downloading his album after the success of his performance.  Red FM DJ and longstanding friend of the Lockdown team Stevie G dj’d into the early hours with special guests Mikki Dee and Mystro.  With spectacular break dancers and fun dance-offs the night was more than just a regular fashion show.

Student fashion designers showcased their new collections and were joined by local boutiques such as Oasis, Patrick St and the very cool new collection from Positively Vintage Castle Street. The amazing hair creations were done by Pamela Morrissey and Aisling O’Sullivan and all the talented team at Sobe Brown, Cork’s only Bumble & Bumble excusive salon.

Collection of the evening went to makeup artist Ann Marie Joy and her co-designer Avril for their ‘Lockdown Angels’ , Victoria Secrets inspired underwear collection. Mary Ginnifer joined Ann Marie as the makeup team for the night.

With a guest appearance and interview with TV3’s ‘The Apprentice’ star Breffny Morgan, aka ‘The Breffmeister’, the night was electric from start to finish and all at the Lockdown Team want to thank everyone for making it the huge success it was. Huge thanks also to Coors Light for their support and keeping the punters happy on the night!
